BALOOOOO!!

I've been spending all day with this guy:

Photobucket
Photobucket

He was so excited to see us again! Especially Seth!

Photobucket
Photobucket

Claude gave him a kiss...
Photobucket

...And we found out that he thinks he's a wiener dog now.

Photobucket

Not to mention I was so happy to see Hammy this year! He's 14 years old! I don't know how many more times I will get to see him, so I'm trying to spend as much time with him as I can.
Photobucket
I'm so happy to spend Christmas with all of my furry buddies! I got a new lens that lets me get up close to these guys. I'll leave you with this one:

Photobucket
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Models

Hannah and Sofia came downstairs wearing Pattie's shoes and I asked them to model them for me. I didn't give them any instructions, and this is what I got:

Bubbles

Aunt Margie came over the other day and brought Matti a bubble making machine for his birthday! The kids were having so much fun, so I decided to get some pictures of it. Enjoy!

GRADUATION

Today, I graduated from BYUH with a B.S. in Pre-professional Biology and a minor in Biochemistry.

It was such a great day and I am so lucky to have family that flew all the way out here to support me.

I feel so liberated!

Here are some of the photos from today:

These are my adorable shoes that I got lots of compliments on! They gave me some hard core blisters before the commencement ceremony even started. But at least they were cute right? My shoes were the only thing that you could see with my gown on, so I had to make sure they were cute!
Photobucket

The 4 Biology graduates! We did it!

Photobucket

Walking in... I was the 4th to last person in line.
Photobucket

Finally getting my diploma! I worked SOOOO hard for this thing! (Sorry its a little blurry).
Photobucket

Photobucket

The polynesian lady who read my name actually messed up my middle name, Ku'uipo, which is crazy because its such a simple Hawaiian word.

Everyone got me so many leis! Being Hawaiian is awesome. My mom and grandma brought a TON. I had to push them down just to be able to see!
Photobucket

My in-laws, Pattie and David flew out here to support me too!
Photobucket

Here are Jen and I---so much fun to get our diplomas together!
Photobucket

It was so much fun to walk around and visit with my professors, since they all know me pretty well by now (I've been here all 4 years).

Dr. Kinghorn and I, one of my favorite professors:
Photobucket

Amy and I. We worked so hard to finish BIOL 493!!!
Photobucket

My research mentor, Dr. Gold:

And me with my favorite person/photographer!! He was my personal paparazzi and followed me all around the commencement ceremony. He just kept telling me how proud he was of me. I love him so much.
Photobucket

Going out to lunch at Ted's afterwards. I had to take off about 10 pounds of leis.
Photobucket

I'm FREEEEE!! For now, anyway! I can't wait to go home for Christmas with my family and my sweetheart Seth, go to Disneyland, shop at Anthropologie, and see my baby fatty! This semester was really hard on me so I am more than ready to relax and enjoy the holidays.

WAHOOOOOO! Life is great.

Hi, remember me?

I'm baaaaack! Well, sort of.

Ok I would say that now most of the craziness has blown over (I call last week "The Perfect Storm").

I actually have time to blog right now, but its been so long and so many things have happened that I don't even remember where I left off.

So the last week was insane...I've probably pulled all-nighters every other night trying to get all of my big assignments done and study for exams, and let me tell you....I AM TIRED. But I'm sure all of you are too, trying to finish up the semester, right?

Some of my accomplishments over the last few weeks include:
-Going to the Kona temple on the Big Island.
-Finishing my 493 research paper and poster.
-Presented research in front of faculty and bio students (I was more nervous about this one that any of you can imagine)
-all of my unit III/IV exams
-all of my homework assignments (There were so many!)
-Found a new place to live
-Booked flights home
-Got a lot of my Christmas shopping done
-Got invited to BYUH President's luncheon with Sister Julie B. Beck
-Finally wrote that awful Abraham paper!

Wow it really feels so good to say that I've done all of that! Now all that is left is moving out of our apartment (and into a new one) and finals... which is still a lot to do, but knowing that I'm graduating next Friday kind of makes me not care anymore. I swear once I grab my diploma I'm just going to start crying and tell everyone how tired I am and how excited I am to move on. Biology/Biochemistry kicked my butt. Please don't make fun of me if that happens.

Anyway, I'm so excited to go home and see family/friends/baby bulldog! And I'm excited for the next month or so! The fam comes out next week and I'm excited. This month is going to be so awesome.

I'm so excited to see you, San Diego!!!! :) Countdown: 9 days!

Ok, now I'm going to move on to post about the big island and other things, b/c I have so many pictures!

Graduation

I'm graduating!

Photobucket
...In two weeks! Just thought I would get that excitement out of the way.

And life couldn't be better.

We're back from the Big Island--what a fun trip! I have absolutely no time this week to blog. I have my research presentation on Friday, a Biochem exam, a religion paper, a kinetics assignment and my research final paper/poster to work on. So I will post soon!

Have a great week! Isn't it awesome that its December all ready?

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Over the weekend...

Today: Homework, work, study.

Tomorrow: Statistics test, Biochem quiz, religion homework, laundry.

Thursday-Sunday: Fly to big island, temple on Friday, hiking, exploring, and well-needed relaxation for a few days.

Monday: Back to reality.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Phone services

Seth and I have been T-Mobile customers forever.

Photobucket

...and they have been absolutely TERRIBLE.

So here's the deal: we have our bills on automatic pay, so that we pay our bill on time every month. T-Mobile mixed up our credit card information, and put another random credit card in its place for 4 different incidences! And then that random credit card (of some totally random person!) didn't go through, and they NEVER told us that our bill was overdue....so when we finally called and asked about it, they had charged us a ton in late fees.
And the funny thing was that they tried to actually make us pay these fees when it was their fault in the first place!

Mixing up people's credit card information is pretty serious in my book. What if they put our card info onto someone else's account? Or someone else's on ours? Scary.

And lets not forget that this incident has happened FOUR times. And their customer service employees gave us so much attitude and were so difficult to work with to correct the problems.....and they always tried to make it seem like it was OUR fault for THEM mixing up our credit card information.

Crazy. Just Crazy.

Oh and I get terrible service out here. I drop almost every other call that I make.

Anyway, to make an incredibly long story short, they won't let us get out of our contract. So we have to miserably wait it out, which isn't too long.

Sooo...in the meantime I am scoping out other service providers.

What cell phone company are you with? Do you like it? Why/why not?

Anthropologie

My heart belongs to a place called Anthropologie.

Photobucket

I feel like this store just screams my personality! I absolutely love all of the things that are in there (with the exception of their prices though). In fact, whenever I show Seth something from Anthro online, he usually says "That is definitely a Lacey shirt!"

One of my favorite things to do when I go home to the main land is hit up all of the Anthropologie stores and look at all of their amazing stuff! And the countdown has begun until I get to visit my beloved store. Some of my favorite things from this season:

Garnet Glow Dress. This one is my absolute favorite! Isn't it just perfect for the holiday season?
It would look so adorable with a cardi and some tights! This is on my Christmas list for sure.

I wish Anthro would lower their prices so I could buy everything! For now everything will just
have to sit on my wish list.

I love you Anthropologie!

Volcano National Park: Day 3

I think the last day we were there it rained the hardest. I was so hard to get up that morning in the freezing cold, rainy weather and put on our dirty wet clothes! Though you have to admit, I looked pretty hot in that dirty yellow raincoat that I had to wear...

Ok, actually the tourists probably thought I was homeless because I was so disgusting.

Anyway, we left the cabins at 7am and drove off to Mauna Kea. It was so rainy, our professor couldn't find his way around the roads, so we ended up just driving in one big circle.

Soooo....we headed off to Rainbow Falls in the meantime. The waterfall was pretty big because of all of the rain Hilo had gotten that weekend.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Like I said......homeless!

So after spending some time over there we headed to another lava tube. This one was a real lava tube--no pavement, railing, or lights.

Photobucket
Photobucket

It was pretty scary actually because we all had dinky flashlights and couldn't see anything. Of course our professors each had a hard core headlamps on, but that didn't help the rest of us! This tube went 7 miles, and eventually went underneath the ocean. We didn't go more than a half-mile because it was pretty rainy and wet, and we (students) couldn't see anything. Plus we were tripping on everything and it was only a matter of time before someone got really hurt (which probably would have been me anyway).

Photobucket
Photobucket
Our next stop was Mauna Kea. We finally found our way over there, and drove up to about 5,000 feet elevation. The weather was a bit more clear up there, but it was still freeeeeezing!
Photobucket

We didn't end up going up to the 14,000 feet elevation level because our professors were afraid someone would get altitude sickness, which apparently had happened before. So, instead we went up to 9,000 feet. We went up to the hunting areas on the side of Mauna Kea to see if we could find the Palila bird around some Mamane trees, which were abundant in that area.

I like this picture because you can see Mauna Loa in the background:
Photobucket
Photobucket
The trip ended with one big, awesome TEST. We had to be able to identify various plants and flowers seen on the trip and its status (endemic, indigenous, introduced...), as well as the geological formations and volcanos, and how they were formed....blah blah blah. It was really hard. I know I did well on the biota section with all of the plants and conservation issues, but the geology portion was ridiculously hard. We were all grumbling about that afterwards. Eh, I guess I'll find out what I got next week! I'm just glad its over.

We took the test at a local drive in called Blaines. Once again, I had the most delicious sandwich of my life. Unfortunately I inhaled it before I could take a picture.

And lastly, here's a picture of the hard-core professors that took us:

Photobucket
They could probably have their own survivor-man show.

We flew back into Honolulu at about 9pm that night. Seth came and picked me up so I didn't have to ride back to Laie in the junk bus! I was SO EXCITED to see him! We went straight to Jack in the Box and grabbed me some food, and then went home. It was so nice to be with my love and go to sleep in a warm bed with clean, dry clothes!

Overall, the trip was quite the experience. It was rough, but I learned a lot and got to see some things that I probably wouldn't have had the chance to if I didn't go. Even though the weather was terrible, I'm glad I went and I'm glad I had some good friends to go with me. :)

Volcano National Park: Day 2

This day was my favorite day. We went on our longest hike but we saw some pretty awesome things.

We got up at 6am in the freezing and pouring rain to hike up to Pu'u huluhulu, Mauna Ulu and Mauna loa volcano craters.
We started out hiking to Pu'u huluhulu. I actually didn't get a picture of that crater because by the time we got to it, it was raining so hard that I was too afraid that my camera would get wet.
But the actual hike there had some really cool volcanic structures and formations from pahoehoe lava flows that erupted from Mauna Ulu.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Cupcake?
Photobucket
I'll have you know Jen and I became experts at building these things. Experts.
Photobucket
Today was tree mold day. We saw tons and tons of tree molds. This happens when the lava forms around the tree, killing the tree but leaving a deep hole etched with bark patterns. Whenever our professor pointed to a lava formation and asked us what it was, you had an 80% chance of getting it right if you said a tree mold or lava tree.

This incredibly awkward picture makes me laugh. I was standing on a tiny lava bridge that was really unstable to see if it would hold me. Someone was taking a picture of me when I made a random last minute decision to jump off of it. As I was jumping off, the bridge collapsed under me and I fell and did a crazy tuck-and-roll sort of move right into the sharp volcanic rock. It was actually pretty hilarious--and I have the giant cuts on my legs to prove it! This picture just reminds me that I'm an idiot.
Photobucket
The hike to Mauna Ulu was just straight over volcanic rock. It was pretty freaky because you could feel the hollow tubes underneath. We were all freaked out that it would crack and we would fall in because some parts were so thin!
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
The top of the Mauna Ulu crater was sweet. It was kind of scary....the top seemed so unstable. One wrong step and you were plummeting to the bottom of a hot volcano. Lots of steam and sulfuric gas was coming up---it was SO hot up there!
Photobucket
Photobucket
After we finished this hike, we drove straight to another volcano: Mauna loa.
I only took one picture of this hike because at this point, I was on the verge of hypothermia and my hands and fingers couldn't move to get out my camera.
Photobucket
Who knew our longest and coldest day would end up being my favorite?
Once again, we spent the night laughing and talking about how offensive it is to people when you cut someone off and then throw your arms up in the air...and then just laughing because we were too tired to make any sense. And then we almost died laughing because one of our professors accidently brought his wife's sweatshirt that said "Number one Grandma" and was too cold to care.
I finally fell asleep watching Wall-E on Kari's iTouch, and then seriously felt like I woke up 2 hours later for day #3.
Day #3 hikes will be posted tomorrow!

Oh my!

What a face!!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Only 4 more weeks until I get to see my favorite ugly face!

Volcano National Park: Day 1

Well I survived the trip! It was pretty rough. I'm glad that I had friends on the trip to balance out the craziness. The main thing that I learned during this trip was that the professors that took us were freakin' hard core!

So here's the gist of day one:

We ended up getting to BYUH at 3am Thursday morning, and getting on our flight at 4:45am. We drove straight to the Volcano National Park when we got there, and got out to hike immediately! No on had any food or water or even the right clothes, because we all thought we were heading to our cabins first to drop off our stuff.......uh...nope! An 8 mile hike first. Like I said....hard core.

Did I mention that there was a giant storm over the Big Island this weekend? That didn't stop us either! Into the storm we went. All of my pictures are pretty grayish and rainy. Like this one. I didn't want to get out of the car, so I took a picture instead.

Photobucket

The first place we hiked was through the Thurston lava tube near Kilauea. It was pretty domestic, and lights installed to light the path, but was still pretty cool. We learned a whoooooolllleeee lot about lava formations and how lava tubes are formed.

Photobucket

Photobucket

We also headed down into the crater of Kilauea Iki, which had its last eruption in 1959.

Photobucket

Everything was so gray and desolate, it looked like we were hiking the trail to Mordor.

Photobucket

Photobucket

You could see the steam coming from the magma underground through various cracks and fissures. It was sooooo warm we just wanted to camp out there next to one.

Photobucket

Photobucket

We saw a lot of sweet lava formations, mainly made from A'a and pahoehoe lava flows.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

This is a view of the crater we hiked through from the top. You can see the steam and sulfuric gas rising from Kilauea in the background.

Photobucket

This is Jen and I freezing to death at the top of the Pauahi crater:

Photobucket

This is the geologist that came with us. He taught us alllllll of the geology about the places that we went to. We all had to take notes because there was a test on the last day. I thought this picture was funny because he looks like he's casting a spell. This guy is incredibly hard core. He did all of the intense hikes with us and he is 74 years old!

Photobucket

After Kilauea Iki, we headed up to Kilauea (Still hungry, still in the rain...). It was too rainy to see much, so this is the best shot I got.

Photobucket

We couldn't hike any closer because of the sulfuric gas that was rising out (as you can see in the picture). I'm sure if it were up to our professors we would have gone anyway and took the chance. Thank goodness for the park rangers!

After the long day we stopped at this local place called the Lava Rock Cafe and I had the best Philly cheesestake sandwich of my life. I don't know whether the sandwich was actually good or I was just so hungry and nutrient deprived that anything I ate tasted like heaven. A rock would have probably tasted just as good. Either way I felt a lot better after eating it.

Photobucket

We finally stopped off at our cabins at the end of the day and they actually turned out to be pretty nice! I didn't get any pictures of it--probably because I immediately cocooned myself in all of the warm clothes and blankets I could find and just stayed there until the next morning! My friends and I got to room together, which was a total blast because we just ended up laughing and talking...but that ended up hurting us in the end when we had to get up at 6am to go hike again.

I'll save day two for tomorrow. So much to blog about!

Pillbox, a wild pig, and a 3-day trek.

Last week Seth and I hiked up to the pillboxes in Lanikai. We do this hike a lot because it is so easy and has such a gorgeous view. Take a look:

Photobucket

Photobucket''

If you look closely, you can see Seth on the hill off to the right.
Photobucket

There were these three guys that were up there flying RC gliders. It was pretty cool to watch and they were more than happy to tell us all about them. They were saying that they like to have glider flights in the air! Way cool. I think my dad would die to go hang out with them.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

On another note, I had a particularly eventful day today. I was working in the science stockroom today in the McKay buildings, and when I was walking out the door to move some boxes, a wild pig ran right in front of me........yes.... a WILD PIG!!

I was so freaked out that I just froze. That has to be one of the most random things that I have ever seen. Anyway, so I was the only one around at the time. The pig ran into the bushes outside of one of the classrooms, so I followed it to see what it was doing. It was just lying in the bushes. I saw one of my friends walking by so I called her over and we just stared at this pig just chilling! I snapped a quick picture with my phone, which I wish I could figure out how to download onto here. So anyway, we called a couple of professors over, and they just ended up scaring the pig to run further into the McKay buildings and freak out a few more students and then ran towards the Hales. One guy kept asking who had rope---he wanted to catch it to eat! Ok, so being a pre-vet student, I had to stop that so I lied and told him we didn't have any rope in the stockroom.... :). I wonder if he was really serious.

I hope the pig got away safely.

So random.

And the last thing ....I'm heading off to the big island tomorrow night for a 3-day trek with my BIO204 class. We're studying the geology at the Volcano National Park and we're supposed to be hiking around 18 miles a day. Its supposed to storm over there all week, so this could end up being a very very very very long weekend. We will see! I hope the weather is good.

Peace out!

Voila.

My cupcake masterpiece.

Pleasing to the eye AND the stomach.

Happy Birthday Ashley!

Soccer violence!

My mom sent me this clip of the BYU women's soccer team vs. New Mexico. I've never seen someone go so nuts in a women's soccer game! Downright dirty.

Well BYU ended up winning 1-0 anyway. Isn't she CRAZY? And what kind of ref lets this go on in a game??? That girl should get kicked out for the season! Talk about no class...

I ended up getting a splinter from the fence...:( Luckily my sweetheart got it out!
Photobucket

And then it started to rain.....and I mean RAIN... like storming rain. LeeYen had to use her reflector as a shield for all of us. But we got wet anyway. And it was FUN!

So it ended up being fun and the pictures turned out great! Thanks LeeYen--we had a blast!

Today's laugh

Today I came across this video at UrbanBulldog:

Sooooo cute! It made me miss my fatty. When he was a puppy, we found him like this one night:

Photobucket

Is this a bulldog thing? A puppy thing? Whatever it is, it makes me want another puppy.

Thursday....we meet again.

This week has been sooooo long...and Thursday (today) has just been the peak of it all, meaning my sanity is hanging by a thread!

In fact, I don't know why I am blogging right now when it is 11 pm and I still have a ton of work to do:

-BIOL 204 lab report
- BIO 493 final paper due tomorrow....(this is my research project that I have been working on for 2 years...and I haven't started writing the paper...)
-CHEM 381 problems

And just to add to it all, I haven't been able to sleep the last 2 nights because both of our neighbors have children that scream and cry at night (which means no sleep for me....*sob!*)

Today I also had a Biochemistry test that just about killed me. So glad its over though. I had three people today ask me questions like:

"Are you crying?"

"What's wrong with your eye?"

"Are you OK Lacey?"

hehe. I guess I looked pretty terrible today.

Seth had a pretty rough day too. When he came home we just lied on the couch and ate giant sandwiches. That was nice.

As Tina Fey puts it,

"All of human kind has one thing in common: the sandwich. All anyone really wants in life is to sit in peace and enjoy a sandwich."

So true.

And now I sit here in the dark with the roaches, blogging and doing everything else possible except doing my homework.

Oh, and here is another picture from our photoshoot! Sorry, I'm too lazy to upload all of them tonight...I'll post them this weekend!

Photobucket

And here is a picture of Fatty with a brand new red collar. That made me smile today.

Photobucket

PS: Twilight is coming out soon, so who wants to go with me? Sadly, the husband isn't into vampires. :)

Preview

Yesterday Seth and I went out with LeeYen and did a fun photoshoot!

Here is the preview:

Photobucket

This was right before we lost the baloons with the keys attached t the bottom, and right before it stormed all over us and we all had to run for cover.

All of this made it so much fun!!

Keep checking back for the rest soon!

Fall

Today I am grateful for Fall, and the beautiful scenery it brings us!

And I am also grateful for this random guy, who gave me a great picture.

Awesome Halloween Week!

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday!

Photobucket

You get to dress up, eat lots of candy, carve pumpkins, and go to haunted houses! Aweeeeeessoooome! This week was so much fun. We tried to not let school and work interfere too much, and it ended up being a great week.

We started out with the Haunted Lagoon at the PCC. We didn't go last year, so this was our first time going. It is a haunted house put on by the PCC, but you ride as a group down the lagoon in the canoes as a bunch of things jump out at you! I was pretty nervous, since I am so incredibly jumpy, but we ended up having SO much fun!
Photobucket

It was freaky. The Lady of Laie was so creepy. SO CREEPY! I guess I thought everything was creepy.  All of these things were hiding in the lagoon and jumping out right next to me, and I got so jumpy that even the rustling of leaves would make me jump!

The scariest part was when I was looking to the right at something scary, and clinging to Seth's arm (I was on the left edge of the canoe in the back) and when I turned around some monster thing had climbed up ON THE CANOE behind me and put his freaky face on the left of mine. I completely lost it and thought I was going to die. Seth said he didn't know I could reach such high octaves.  From then on the monster people seemed to know I was a good target because they kept popping up right next to me. As freaky as it was, I ended up loving it! I wish I could go over and over again! So fun! We were really impressed with how much work the PCC put into the haunted lagoon!

Photobucket

Unfortunately on Halloween, I had to be at school most of the day doing research and Seth had to work. (Bummer). But the kids Seth works with dressed up, and he sent me a picture! This is Ritchie (Dog the Bounty Hunter) and Scott (a pimp). It was hilarious.

Photobucket

I also got a picture of my sister Jordie's costume, which I thought was pretty cool:

Photobucket

...A bunch of grapes!

When Seth got home he surprised me with his costume:

Photobucket
Photobucket

A Mexican Chargers fan. hahaha. Apparently him and his cousin Kelly had been wearing these mustaches around all day at work.

We ended up heading up to Haleiwa  for dinner, and spending the rest of the day watching the sun set and eating lots and lots of leftover candy.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!

A sad pumpkin story

This week Seth and I ventured down to the pumpkin patch in Kapolei, excited to pick out our own pumpkins this year! Sadly, we were sorely disappointed.
Photobucket

Don't be fooled by that picture....all of the pumpkins left were rotten!!! ALL of them. Or what was left of them.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I was wondering why no one was walking back out of the farm without pumpkins. There weren't any!

This pumpkin was plain ol' naaaaaaaassty.

Photobucket

So....

I decided to throw it.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

And it exploded on the ground.

Photobucket

Seth did the same.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

And we felt better.

No pumpkins for us. I was really bummed. But on our way out we picked up some fresh corn on the cob.

Photobucket

At least we didn't pay for parking (parked on the outside). If you want to see what a REAL pumpkin patch looks like, go HERE to Emerson's blog!

This is definitely one of those times where I miss the mainland dearly. It's SafeWay pumpkins for us this year!

Makapu'u Ridge hike

Once again, for BIOL 204, we had to go on a 12 hour excursion. This time, we went to Makapu'u. Instead of taking the nice paved road up to the top of the ridge, we went around the cliffs, up the ridge, and around the mountain to get to the top, while looking at all of the biology and geological formations at the same time. Dr. Bruner, Dr. Gold, and Dr. Hammond lead the hike, so we got more than enough info on biota, microbiology, and geology.

Photobucket

The hike was pretty scary at the top---a really narrow trail on a high cliff with a lot of obstacles in the way. I was actually surprised we were being taken on this hike for a class! It was awesome. It reminded me of the Na Pali hike. The views from the side were incredible and the ocean was so blue and calm that day!

Photobucket

On the right there is a cool place to jump off into a little bay area. I loved how remote it was!

Photobucket

Photobucket

We passed by some cool geological structures and plants that we had to memorize for a test when we finished the hike. (crazy!)

This is a sea stack:
Photobucket
Photobucket

The view at the top of the ridge is my favorite view of Hawaii:

Photobucket

My friend Mel and I taking a break from hiking (and listening....too much geology for one day if you ask me...)
Photobucket

We learned all about how Rabbit Island (Manana) and Kaohikaipu island were formed!

Photobucket

There were a lot of parachuters drifting down, and I got a close-up of one:

Photobucket

See them all at the top?

Photobucket

Hiking around the ridge allowed me to get some great shots of the lighthouse!

Photobucket
Photobucket

The hike down was rough (lots of cactus and thorny plants) and left me with a lot of cuts.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Our second hike (yes, there was another hike!), we went to the ridge between Haunama bay and Sandy's to study geology.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Photobucket

After the hike I was so happy to get home! I was sunburned in all the wrong places too---lots of tan lines! My favorite was the tan line from my knee brace. I have a nice read circle on my knee. When I got home I was greeted by this guy at my doorstep:
Photobucket
He was all bugged by the flash and closed one eye. I'd like to think he was winking at me. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

Today (the 22nd) is my mom's birthday.
Photobucket
she is turning the big......3-0!! :) hehe... Well at least she looks like it!

As I've grown up and matured a bit, I've realized how much my mom has done for me over my life, and how I ungratefully returned the favor with all the trouble I caused combined with some serious attitude during my teenage years at home. But my mom is the kind of person that still loves me anyway. And now that I've matured a bit we are able to be good friends now, and I love hanging out with her when I am home. My mom has been through a lot throughout her life, and I think she is the strongest and most spiritual person I know, and I think she deserves the best birthday ever!

So Happy Birthday mom! I'm sure dad and the girls have something fun planned for you. And I'm sure Baloo will greet you with some birthday slobber. I love you and hope you have a great day today!!!
